When Caia leaves her dorm, she is meticulous in her checking to make sure she has everything. She checks herself once, twice, and then just to be sure, a third time. She pats down pockets, brushes hands over wrists and digs through her purse double and then triple checking to make sure she has everything she needs. Amesti Springs Girls Academy is a walk away from anything cool, not a far walk, but a walk nonetheless.
She prefers to make sure she has everything to avoid having to walk back - or worse, to avoid asking people for things.
So, when she gets to the park and pulls out a hand-rolled joint - albeit as discreetly as she can - and then digs into her pocket to find her lighter, she is pissed to find out that it's not there. She puts the joint back into her pocket and then pats both down. Nothing. She pats down the outer pockets of her purse and also finds nothing. She digs into her purse, shuffling around the few items actually inside and - once again - comes out with nothing. A heavy sigh escapes her lips as she turns to the nearest person.
"Hey, you got a light?" She asks.

| Shoving the thin little tan card into a massive machine to clock out was just a part of Nikolai's routine. Like the string theory he read on Creepy Pasta, he had a set routine that hardly ever changed unless his shift for work got switched, then it was kept the same which was school, then work, then head back to the dorms to study or play video games depending on what he accomplished on his breaks. Placing the card back on the wall where the other employee's kept their time card, he grabbed his messenger bag which was laid on the floor before heading out of the staff room, past the counters and out onto the streets.
Moving at a snail pace, Nikolai really didn't want to go back to the dorms... He was getting pretty sick of his routine and in the spur of the moment decided to mix it up a bit. Heading to the local park, Nikolai felt quiet pleased with himself that he was changing his normal routine for some fresh air after all, it would do him some good. Once entering the park, Nikolai stopped for a brief moment to soak in the scenes the park had to offer which had a few kids on the playground and a couple of teens playing Frisbee along with the occasional dog walker. Inhaling, Nikolai was slightly caught off guard when a feminine voice spoke out to him.
"Hey, you got a light?"
"Няма." The response came out in Belorussian after all, he had been quiet unprepared for someone to sneak up on him and ask him such an odd question. "I uh mean no..." Nikolai corrected himself after all, he highly doubted the female in front of him spoke a word of Belorussian. | |

The first thing out of the boy's mouth is something foreign. Confusion spreads across Caia's face when she hears what he says.
Caia herself does not speak multiple languages. She knows bits and pieces of languages, the basics if anything. She spent a lot of her childhood travelling with her parents. If she did not know the basics, she would have been stranded on many occasions as her parents were not always around. What the boy speaks sounds familiar, probably something European, maybe near Russia, she does not spend too much time thinking about it.
He corrects himself after a short moment and her confused look changes to a somewhat annoyed one. A frustrated sigh escapes her lips as she plays with the joint in her pocket.
A park full of little children running around and playing games isn't the best play to light up. Lighting up in public is a stupid idea in general, but Caia is a stupid girl who gets off on doing stupid things, so the train of thought is not ignored when it passes through. For a moment, Caia wonders if this is God telling her she really should not have planned to get high in a park full of kids.
She decides God is a dick for ruining her plans.
"Shiiiiiit," she says. "Do you know any convenience stores around then? Ones that sell lighters or matches or something?"

| At his simple word, he was met with a gaze of confusion, but she soon realized that it was a no which caused her to become slightly frustrated. Of course, it wasn't his fault he didn't carry a lighter after all, he really didn't have any use for one. Yet, she popped a question which he luckily knew the answer to.
"Shiiiiiit, do you know any convenience stores around then? Ones that sell lighters or matches or something?"
Nodding his head, he glanced over towards the path he had taken to get to the park from his work and wondered if he could properly explain how to get there. Attempting to recall the street names, he soon realized it might be a bit overly complicated and decided his best bet would probably to show her. After all, getting lost wasn't really fun... He had done it a couple of times when he first arrived in the city.
"Yeah, I actually work at uh one that isn't far from here." He explained before shifting his gaze back over to the raven haired female. "I could show you? It's kinda of hard to find at first." | Caia Ramsey - 195 Words - Sorry.. It's a little short. ;-; |

When the boy tells her that he knows of a convenience store around, Caia's whole face lights up with joy. She is an open-book after all. She has never seen the point in hiding or surpressing emotions. If you are angry, be angry. If you are sad, be sad. She has always been told to suppress her emotions and not let people read her as easily as she lets them, but she has never been successful in that area. If she needs to hide something, she will, but if she does not need to hide something, then she will not. To her, it is as simple as that.
"Yeah!" She says with a smile. "That'd be really cool of you."
Caia is no stranger to the nitty gritty side of humanity. The side that always has strings attached and never expects anything in return for a quick favor is the side she is more familiar with, if anything. So, despite outward apperances, Caia is somewhat weary of the apparently nice stranger. She does not show the suspicion on her face or in her body language, but she keeps it in the back of her mind as a reminder that not all nice people are actually nice people.
In all this thinking, Caia remembers her manners. Manners that were drilled into her by her parents for the sake of being a good prodigy daughter, but were drilled into her nonetheless. She holds her hand out for handshake before speaking.
"Oh yeah, I'm Caia, nice to meet'cha," she says with a toothy grin.
It is never too late to make a good impression on someone, she tells herself. But it is also never too late to make a bad one either, the cynical part of her mind reminds her. Nikolai Malashonak

| Just as he mentioned the convenience store, the girl seemed to brighten up like a star in the night sky. In all honesty, he didn't think she should get that excited about a lighter, but he figured it was better, then dealing with someone who showed no emotions like his father... Well except angry. It was always easy to tell when something was bothering his father or even infuriating him.
"Yeah! That'd be really cool of you."
The girl spoke up as she beamed a smile towards Nikolai which sort of made him smile just a tad. Since arriving to Amesti, Nikolai was kind of like a little hermit as he went between doing school work, studying and actually working. So, he hadn't really gotten to know anyone on campus except for one person, but she attended the girls academy... It was odd how he seemed to get along better with females, but then again most of the males on campus seemed like jerks who wanted to fight anyone and anything.
"Oh yeah, I'm Caia, nice to meet'cha,"
Introducing herself, Caia offered her hand which Nikolai accepted. Even so, the girl's name sounded Latin, perhaps even borderline Greek or Roman. "A pleasure, Caia. I'm Nikolai." The Belorussian chimed in. Although he was slightly proud of himself as his introduction didn't hold any 'uh' and he didn't speak a word of Belorussian which seemed like progress. Overall, Caia seemed like a generally nice person. She had manners and seemed to be an easy person to get along with as well. Without a single word, he turned around and started to walk a little before he turned his head to glance over his shoulder to make sure the other was following.
