Personality & Appearance
Personality:
Alphonse, at a first glance, comes off much as a gentleman. He's proper in his ways, and has a... way of using words and a heart-melting smile that make the students swoon, most unfortunately. He genuinely cares for people and attempts to help in any way possible- especially children, who he would willingly go as far as to parent himself. However, as most couplings and quartets under his wing have found out, the man is quite the perfectionist and extremely hard to please. He isn't afraid to point out your flaws, but he never does so in an insulting manner. It's all to help, after all. Outside of his job, though, he can come off as cold- especially if he has a mission for his part-time job coming up.
Appearance:
Alphonse has a most elegant appearance, with just slightly tanned skin, smooth features and silky, black hair. His silver eyes remain gentle at most times, but can gain a chill similar to steel if necessary. He sports most formal clothing, from Tuxes to simple dress-shirts and slacks- he refuses to go casual unless in his own house. However, if one catches him swimming... He may just be far, far more exposed.
A little bit extra
Likes:
- His cello: Alphonse absolutely adores his stringed treasure, it's the love of his (otherwise single) life. He's often found playing at night, on the balcony to his bedroom window.
- Money: The second love of his life. He doesn't like to degrade himself, but he may do so in secret if it's for a sum of cash.
- Children: Alphonse just has a soft spot for them, really. He's willing to do much for them, as he didn't receive that attention as a child until later on.
- Swords: Despite having guns, Alphonse loves nothing more than his sword when it comes to methods of attacking.
Dislikes:
- Cursing: Though he does so on occasion, from time to time.
- Anything cheap: This man enjoys his laps of luxurious items... Even in quite a few weren't originally his.
- Messes: He's known to clean up his crime scenes, and not just for the sake of keeping his identity secret.
- Summer: Hot weather is a no go for Alphonse. It's sweaty, miserable, and he'd honestly just go bathe in a pool of ice.
Flaws:
- Alphonse is a perfectionist to the point it hurts, and he can get easily agitated when the imperfections aren't fixed and fixed soon, in music or otherwise.
- He also has a habit of being overly affectionate with his words. He can come off as flirting easily with what he says, when he is really just trying to be a nice guy.
- Alphonse is reclusive. He's a social man, but he isn't fond of exposing himself too much, when it comes to his lifeand his problems, whether they be past or present. This only becomes apparent if one asks him about anything other than his music, or Teaching.
- Alphonse is also two-faced. His default, unless enraged, is to be polite to anyone- but he'll easily backstab them if he's trying to get a job done. He holds nothing personal against these people. he's just been raised to put himself, and only those he cares for most, first. Everyone else is disposable.
History
Alphonse spent the majority of his life in the outskirts of Paris, France. He’d been dropped off at an orphanage there as an infant- most likely because of children being unaffordable unless you have a decent income- so he never honestly knew his family. He did, however, learn how it felt to be an orphan in the city. From a young age he learned how stone-faced and brutal some of these children had become to survive, and unfortunately, he never caught on too well.
Needless to say, he was put in his place often, and on some occasions he’d end up losing his meal for the day. What made it worse was that parents didn’t want the scraggly, beat up children. They wanted the well-fed looking and strong ones, putting Alphonse between a rock and a hard place, as far as his situation went.
However… then Sir Benoît Duval arrived at this orphanage. Now, no one saw this coming- after all, this was Sir Duval, one of the richest men in Paris. What would such a pompous man want with a bunch of dirty children? The best part came when, out of the line-up, he chose… Alphonse. Even the Nuns asked him twice to rethink his choice, mostly out of fear of him blaming the orphanage for any disappointments the runt might bring, but Benoît was firm in his decision, and that night, they went to his mansion.
Oh, Alphonse had never felt so happy. He was finally going to have a family like his other, meaner peers had, and he hadn’t even hurt anyone for the honor! He beamed the whole trip, despite the older man’s stony features. They fell into a smirk only once, the entire trip, and in his low, rumbly tone he spoke this one line:
“For a soon-to-be slave, you seem quite happy.”
… And that was how every bit of Alphonse’s idealized hopes and dreams fell apart, all in a matter of moments. It turned out Sir Duval didn’t need a child- after all, he had three possible heirs- but a servant for his every need. It broke the boy’s heart, but he accepted it. He hadn’t any choice, and.. it was still better than the orphanage.
Life in a nutshell became just that though, serving his new master. He was never hit, thankfully, but he was often scolded. He'd wash the dishes daily, make the beds, clean the windows... He did it all with a positive air. No matter how the work varied, he kept his wits and found a way to stay happy, and it fascinated his master. However, as Alphonse would learn, an intrigued Sir Duval was best to be avoided.
The testing for Alphonse began. He was often given double work, and he'd be forced to wake up at midnight. This, along with other tasks, became a living hell for him, but he eventually got used to the new night schedule... And Alphonse thought he was seeing things, but it looked like the old man was smiling more than usual.
Then, Alphonse's fourteenth birthday arrived, and it had an odd start, to say the least. He was allowed to sleep in for once, and when he did wake, he had but one job... To meet Master in the basement that night.
Now, the boy was thrilled with his newfound of time, but also felt immense terror at the thought of meeting this man at night. Mainly because it reminded him off the horror movies and he didn't want to die. Despite his fears, he couldn't say no to the one who'd kept him all these years...
As the time arrived to go see him, his paranoia and subdued horror grew. And, truly, what he found confirmed those fears... For there in the basement with him was a tied up old man, struggling desperately in his seat and pale as a sheet of paper. An attempt to scream was cut off all too quickly by a dry, rough hand clamped to his mouth.
"Shut up and listen..."
He froze immediately, knowing that voice to be his master. It took a few moments for him to fully calm, of course, but he did, and what followed was the explanation of a lifetime. As it turned out, Benoît had... interesting ways of getting and keeping his money- he was a hitman actually- And because of Alphonse's proven strength, he was going to be his new apprentice... And hours training, dealing with killing people, was set to start tonight.
The training in itself wasn't terribly hard physically, but Sir Duval and Alphonse argued a lot on whether the killing was right. It normally was ended with the simple statement of, "I can always send you back. Remember that," and Alphonse would then quiet his argument, but he hated it. He hated killing, he hated making apparently innocent people struggle because of money.
As time passed though, he assessed that a lot of the people his were placed on were jerks. Murderers, stalkers... It finally began to make sense to him. They were not just there to kill. They were the law when the law wouldn't do it's job- and that, Alphonse had no qualms doing.
By the time Alphonse hit his late teens, he'd moved up in ranks to being Benoît's partner, even doing single missions on the side. What started as a one man profession became a business. Alfonse even was allowed to call himself a Duval as well.
But the two began to bond beyond their work. As it turned out, Benoît loved music. He let Alphonse take lessons for the instrument of his pick, which was cello. They'd have duets all the time, with the old man on his piano and the servant on his strings. It was a rare sight, seeing Sir Duval be moved by their pieces, and Alphonse felt truly honored.
A while later though, when Alphonse and Benoît were on a mission, only to find their target had been informed, and had a gun. Alphonse was the one aimed for, but in a shocking move Benoît took the bullet. In his horror, Alphonse let the kill get away, in turn for holding his old matter. With a grim, tired face he said this one line:
"You have earned my love... But with this, my servant, you have also gained my eternal disappointment."
Alphonse knew he had let him down, and the regret of his actions that night never left him. It made it worse that Benoît had left his business to him, and solely him- not his children. Between that, and the children obviously not being happy over the lack of money- they'd never been informed of his methods- Alphonse hit rock bottom. Deciding to not be an even bigger disappointment though, he vowed to keep things going... Just in a new country. And after much deliberation, he chose America.
He brought a few workers with him, but even with such, he'd need a new identity. He'd need a method to explain all his cash... Thinking on it, he decided teacher was innocent enough, and went to college to get his degree in such. Because of the recent loss in his family, he was allowed to get a huge deduction on his total cost- something to this day Alphonse finds hilarious.
Regardless, on the side he built up the business, little by little, and even did private lessons with children. He did so well on them that, despite having no teaching skills before this, he was hired by Amesti as soon as he got his degree. Right now, he's set to reach his first year there... And obviously get in as many kills as possible.
